Bride
to Be Takes Gold at Masters World Championships
Fiona
Hunter of Norwich Canoe Club took time off from her wedding preparations to take
gold in the Over 34 Masters World Championship K1 event in the Czech Republic.
Scottish
born Fiona, an orthoptist at the N&N University Hospital, powered her way to
victory over a 12 mile course in unusually cold conditions for the time of year.
Proud husband-to-be Dean Grady was delighted to see her take top spot on the
podium as were friends and family back in the UK as word spread quickly via
e-channels.
Fiona
raced again the following day in the K2 (doubles) event and gained another
medal, winning silver with partner Ali Pendle also from Norwich Canoe Club.
Julie
Hicks took a bronze medal in the Over 44 K2 event to round off a very successful
Masters Championships for Norwich.
In
the Senior Men’s World Championship, Tim Pendle from Norwich teamed with John
Simmons from Wey Kayak Club to finish a very creditable 12th from a
starting field of 36 boats. This was Tim’s first World Championship as a
senior so they were well satisfied with their performance and are determined to
build on this for a podium spot in the future.
