Lightning
Success for Norwich
The
Norwich Canoe Club squad of lightning paddlers had good success at the Canoe
Marathon National Championships on the River Thames at Wokingham at the weekend.
The lightning class of boats is specially designed for the younger and smaller
competitor and Norwich CC had good results in both U10 and U12 boys and girls
who coped extremely well with challenging water conditions due to the excessive
rainfall in previous days.
Lucy
Lee-Smith had a tremendous race and finished 4th in the U10 girls,
whilst Joseph Rix paddled strongly to 5th position in the U10 boys.
Norwich’s
U12 girls were again highly placed with Harriet Hicks in 5th place
and Amelia Rix close behind in 7th. These results led to Norwich
being ranked 4th nationally in the Lightning category.
Tim
Pendle, currant European Junior Marathon Champion finished 2nd with
partner Robert Beer of Elmbridge CC in the junior K2 event (doubles) which
secured him a place in the British team travelling to the World Championships in
Gyor, Hungary on 9th September.
Other
notable performances at the National Championships came from up and coming
juniors, Hannah Lake and Harriet Hicks (9th in U14 girls K2) and
Oliver Rik and Albert Hicks (4th in U14 boys K2).
Norwich
Canoe Club continues to go from strength to strength and welcomes new members of
