Following the
Canoe Marathon National Championships at Worcester at the weekend, Tim Pendle of
Norwich Canoe Club has been selected to represent Great Britain at the World
Championships in the Czech Republic next month. Tim will compete in the double
kayak senior men’s event with partner John Simmons from Wey kayak club.
Earlier in
the season Tim and John competed for the national team at 2 world cup events at
Berlin and Porto, as warm up events for the major championships. They finished
in 5th and 6th places at these events, and are now
focusing all training towards obtaining the best possible result at the Worlds.
Tim trains
twice a day at Norwich Canoe Club, just a stones throw from his home in Trowse.
Other club
members helped Norwich power to 3rd place overall in the team
competition.
Outstanding
performances were put in by Becky Schofield and Fiona Hunter in the senior
ladies doubles, taking the bronze position in the National Championship event
13 year old
Albert Hicks won silver in the under 14 boys doubles, and Lucy Lee-Smith and Joe
Rix paired up successfully to take bronze in the Under 12 class.
