Norwich
Canoe Club’s Lightning Squad was in action at the National
Sprint Championships over the weekend. The “Lightning” category are specially designed racing
kayaks for the Under 12’s and is a hotly contested
competition, yet Norwich’s youngsters dominated the “B”
category and Ryan Ellis made his mark in the “A” category.
In near perfect conditions, on a very hot weekend, the
racing was fast and furious.
There
were outstanding performances from brothers Matthew and Kieran
Hayward who took the silver medal in the doubles (K2), gold
medals in the winning K4, and Matthew also went on to take
silver in the individuals (K1).
Special
mention should go to Daniel Hunt who at his first regatta and
after only 3 months of canoeing was a key member of the winning
K4 crew and teamed up with club mate Daniel Sanders to win gold
in the doubles event.
Dean
Terry, the final member of the K4 paddled to his limit to help
his team mates secure gold.
Congratulations
to all these young paddlers—our stars of the future.
