Double
International Selection for Tim
Tim
Pendle from Norwich Canoe Club has been selected to represent Great Britain at
two forthcoming International events, a World Cup International Marathon next
week at Brandenburg, Germany, followed by an International
Sprint Meeting at
Bochum, Germany, the following week.
The
remarkable thing about this double selection is that Tim has had to excel at two
disciplines of the sport, marathon and sprint, the equivalent of being a top
400m runner and marathon runner!
To
achieve this at any time would be remarkable enough, but to do so in his first
year as a senior is outstanding. 18-year old Tim, from Trowse in Norwich, won
the Junior European Marathon championship last july and was 6th in the world in
K2 (double kayak) last september.
Since
then he has trained hard both at home in Norwich under the guidance of club
coach and father, Dyson Pendle, and alternated this with training in London with
a group of elite athletes with national team coaching.
Tim
will be paddling double kajak (K2) at both events, teaming with John Simmons
from Wey Kayak Club for the marathon and Ben Haynes from Leighton Buzzard for
the sprint event. We wish them all the best of luck.
