Press Release

Norwich Canoe Club swept aside all opposition with an astonishing
result at Bedford that sent a signal of intent out to all the other
clubs in the Eastern region. They recorded six first places, from
Adam Houlgate in Division 6, Emily Linnell in Division 8, Robert
Kilbourn, and Tim Scott in Division 4 K2 and Dean Grady and Ashely
Nobbs in the Division 7 K2. Along side these were excellent second
places from the K2's of Alan Epps and Gavin Rix in Division 4, Hannah
Lake and Ian Lake in Division 8, and the result of the day, the
junior K2 of Joe Rix and Lucy Lee Smith who came second in Division
9, racing crews twice their size and three times their age. Also
worthy of special mention are Stacey Terry with a well earned third
in Division 8, Sam Stronge with another good third in Division 7 and
Dean Terry who put in a determined performance to come 4th in the
under 12 boys race.

Club members also travelled to Chester for the first British Team selection event of the year. Good performances in these events can lead to selection to represent Great Britain at international events throughout the season. Norwich had competitors in 3 of the 4 categories. Top performances came from Tim Pendle (senior men) and Becky Schofield (senior women) who both finished 2nd in their races, a solid start to the season’s racing.

In the junior men’s race Albert Hicks improved on previous performances to finish a creditable 6th and Oli Rix was not far behind in 9th place
