Norwich
dominate at national selection race
There
was no holding back Norwich’s 2 senior paddlers, Tim Pendle and Becky
Schofield last weekend at Bedford Canoe marathon K2 Assessment Race, where they
left for dust all the opposition securing themselves as favourites for selection
for this year’s GB marathon team.
Norwich’s
Tim Pendle teamed up with John Simmons from Wey Kayak Club to convincingly beat
all-comers in the senior men’s selection race, including the boat of Johnson
and Sawyers who were 10th in the world last year. This outstanding
performance by these 2 young athletes was good news for the selectors, hoping
for a strong GB team this year to take to World Cup events in Germany and
Portugal, and the World Championships in the Czech Republic.
A
delighted Becky Schofield continued her unbeaten run this year winning the
senior ladies race with partner Fay Lamph also from Wey Kayak Club.
Norwich’s
junior paddler’s also turned in good performances in the U18 event with Lewis
Allen (paired with Aaron Jordon from
Maidstone) finishing 5th, and
the boat of Albert Hicks and Ollie Rix finishing 9th.
Beginners
canoe courses at Norwich Canoe Club start on Saturday May 10th for
anyone interested in taking up the sport, and are open for anyone from the age
of 8. Please contact Jackie at info@norwichcanoeclub.org.uk
