Norwich Canoe Club has made a significant commitment to this outreach work in time from its volunteers and by acquiring adaptive and beginners’ boats. Norwich Canoe Club has also made a major financial commitment to new purpose built facilities, which will help better accommodate disabled paddlers. Norwich Canoe Club is also a founding member of the Whitlingham Boathouses Foundation Ltd (Company Limited by Guarantee; Registered in England Number 7012582; Registered Charity Number 1133063). Under the auspices of the Whitlingham Boathouses Foundation, Norwich Canoe Club, along with Norwich Rowing Club, University of East Anglia Boat Club, Norwich School Boat Club and Norwich High School Rowing Club are working to develop community rowing and canoeing in Norfolk. The vision of the Whitlingham Boathouses Foundation Ltd fits perfectly with the aims of Norwich Canoe Club:
- Encouraging new participants to rowing and canoeing.
- Developing and establishing new partnerships.
- Encouraging rowing and canoeing for life.
- Inspiring our members and the community through individual and collective success.
- Helping people of all ages, abilities and disabilities to achieve their potential.
- Maintaining a social focal point for like minded people.
The Norwich Canoe Club Outreach Programme has been recognised by the British Canoe Union and some of the individuals that have benefited from it, have gone on to join the Club and take part in the Club’s regular training sessions and activities. The outreach work is set to continue and Norwich Canoe Club will continue with this challenging but incredibly rewarding and beneficial community programme.
