Norwich Canoe Club is a friendly racing club where canoeing is safe and fun and we welcome anyone who wants to have a go on the water. We have as many girls as boys and as many women as men, and we also have lots of families who all come and paddle together. Our members are all ages, from 7 to 70 so there is definitely a place for you.

We also happen to be one of the top racing clubs in the country winning the National Marathon Championships in 2011 against 65 other clubs, and we regularly produce elite paddlers of all ages who represent the country in Europe, at the World Championships and even at the Olympics. Our Head Coach, Dyson Pendle was awarded Norfolk Coach of the Year 2011. A lot of  our members regularly go to races all over the country and we have a training programme that makes for a friendly but competitive atmosphere.

We also have lots of social events and fun events too and there’s always something exciting happening. This is one of the reasons we were awarded BBC East Community Club of the Year Award in 2011.

The club has all the equipment you need to learn whether an adult or a junior (buoyancy aids, kayaks, paddles). We have a whole fleet of Lightning kayaks and small winged paddles and small buoyancy aids especially for the under 12’s. For any paddleability paddlers we also have a kayak with a stabilizer attached.

We run courses throughout the year where you’ll have fun learning how to paddle a kayak and then at the end of the six sessions you’ll get your Paddlepower Passport award (like the old one star award). If you want to carry on and paddle some more you can come to club sessions and paddle with other people like you. After that you can think about racing and that’s when it gets really exciting.

The sport we do is kayak racing and we paddle super light kayaks that go fast. We race in lanes like they do in the Olympics, and that’s called sprint racing. And we also race over longer distances where there are a lot of racing tactics because there are no lanes, and that’s called marathon racing. It is one of the most exciting sports on earth. Once you get involved you’ll be hooked for life.

At the club we have a really experienced and friendly coaching staff who are there to help you. Everyone has their own goals of what they would like to achieve whether it’s simply wanting to get a little fitter, completing in a first race ever, or trying to get selected for the National team – whatever you want to achieve we have the expertise and experience to help you succeed.

We have twenty five qualified coaches who all help to run beginners courses and run club sessions who will not only make sure you have a safe and fun time, but can give you advice on how to get the most from your paddling. As well as their coaching qualifications they have all been CRB checked, attended Child Protection Classes and had First Aid training. The Club has been awarded the Clubmark status which shows the we meet a set of National Standards in a whole range of areas. It is an accreditation from Sport England and Canoe England to show that we are a safe, effective, child friendly club.

And on top of all that we also have some of the best water to paddle on in the whole country right on our doorstep. Norwich Canoe Club has the use of Whitlingham Great Broad, Whitlingham Little Broad, as well as the River Yare and Wensum. And of course there’s the whole of the Norfolk broads to explore as well…

So this is a fantastic opportunity for you! You have one of the most exciting clubs in the whole country on your doorstep! Get in touch with us now!
